Yes. Yes, this is how far behind I am on reccing, that I have stories sitting in my pending tag from 2006. I — I don't know why I haven't said anything about this before. Do not let the lack of title deter you from this piece! It may look anonymous, but in fact it is fabulous, and I will now share why. I will try not to use too many words because I don't want to spoil the experience. If I had to describe this story in one word, I would cheat and be like awesomefantasticfabulousmademeflailandsqueak which, as we are not a verbal community and communicate textually, absolutely counts.
This deals with another one of my favorite issues, and does it like a clean, fast cut, so it's not a huge deal but it is. This seems a simple story from the outset but there's so much going on underneath it, and with the characters themselves. (Seifer/Zell)

Part of my love of this fic is wrapped up in the fact that the author doesn't completely massacre Zell's character. So much in Seifer/Zell fic I find that people are so determined to make it one-sided, meet every single requirement for yaoi conventions that they forget Zell's character completely. That didn't happen here at all, and I love this story for it. Seifer and Zell are both themselves, and the whole set-up is hilarious. I knew what was coming and I just delighted in it. It might be my bias of seeing Seifer and Zell as equals coloring my view, but some of the dialogue, too. I just love what was done here, so much. Plus: mantouching. ♥ ♥ ♥ (Seifer/Zell)

Firstly! BACO WROTE ME SEIFER/ZELL FIC. Basically when I saw it I flipped out and capslocked at her a little a lot and then spammed everyone I was talking to at the time with the link. Because the story is just so perfect and I so envy her ability to slide in extremely hot interaction that's SO awesome in so few words. When I read it the first time, I interpreted it in a certain way AND I'M NEVER CHANGING THAT INTERPRETATION. Ever. God, I love Baco's work so much, she spoils me. With this, I am spoiled. Waking Up by lassarina
I feel validated in hypocriting it up with this drabble mainly because I think the oomph here is not in the end, but in the hypocrisy (hypocrisy is clearly a theme for me). Oh, Seifer. I love Seifer because he's so layered and full of sticky self-hate and the aforementioned hypocrisy. Damaged goods rings more true to me with Seifer, than, say, Squall, because Seifer's self-destruction involves other people—the people he uses to leak his ego and "I just want to be loved!" and "Ha, you FELL for that line? Loser." all over them. So when I'm given a piece where he's evading and lying to himself about what he feels, even in small doses, I am pleased as punch. Add in the fact that this drabble gives me that and more when it delivers a pile of Zell being at turns, cute, grumpy, and not Seifer's love slave, but his own person! That he can touch and take and still be in character! Oh, be still my heart. But really, that's icing on the cake with this, and how I do love it with something that is meant to be porn turns into character study, and I'm just saying: fanfic as meta. The power of 100 words. I have buttons. One of those buttons happens to be labeled with "Seifer reveals himself through his arrogance." Based on the knowledge of my button labels, this author has either been reading my mind or rifling through my underwear drawer where I keep my controls. I can't even think of a clever way to bring hypocrisy into this, because this is a drabble done right in every way for me because it hits exactly three of my kinks at the same time while delivering the end I so desire. That's delivery. Seifer submitting to anyone makes my brain melt, but when he's submitting to Zell, well. Someone bring me a Phoenix Down, Nikki has just KO'ed me with the spell called Fabulous. Seifer is arrogant, he is strong; I see him as coming to everything but making those situations on his terms. So what if Zell is the one on top? Seifer's not going to ask Zell for anything, he's going to make sure Zell gives it to him. And lord, I lament every single day that there's not more realistic sex like this in this fandom—how most of the people writing it are people treating buttsex like vaginal sex.
Stop it, fandom!
Anyway, back to the drabble: here's a case where there's sex and it's not just sex but character study because you're seeing Seifer do what he does best. He's getting what he wants on his terms, in his way, and he revealing himself as he does it. Under Zell's hand, but still very much in control and I have to say that I'm not sure how people miss how layered drabbles can actually be when someone stops to think before writing and the reader looks at them. It's not just me, right, able to write a three-page essay on what I think some drabbles mean? Right? (Seifer/Zell)

This was a neat look at how Seifer and Zell might relate to each other. Zell, tentative, Seifer, holding out. I'll resist saying "for a hero" here even though I really think it would be fitting given Seifer's character in the game.
Going in with a caveat: I get that hotdogs are a big deal in the game to Zell, but they get overused as a anchor for Zell's character. It feels forced. It happens with a lot of Seifer/Zell fic I read. I understand why it's a problem, but it has a bad effect of making sure a character never becomes any more defined than what's given to us by canon. Sometimes fanon is okay! This is one of those times. (Seifer, Zell)
